Para Raquel Durán

Dear Friend

Shadows mourn
the loss of evening light…
always blue
like the moon on winter nights

Crisp, cold air fills my nostrils
I weep without regret—
a friend is ready to cross over…
just like the others

Smiling faces adorn
the altar of my life—
familiar faces on photographs,
deep glances that reflect
pure fire burning
eternal candles

Soft white flowers
caress the breeze…
the scent of incense
lingers in my thoughts

Once again,
I am ready
to release my hold
on your emotions,
dear friend… Continue

Virgen de Guadalupe

I just came back from the most beautiful ceremonia I have ever been to. Grupo Coatlicue Mesa de la Virgen de la Luz just started connecting with the grupos in California about 4 years ago more so then ever, we have become pretty close to several grupos in this area. We went to Hesperia California for Grupo Coatlaxopeuh's annual fiesta for the Virgen de Guadalupe, it was amazing. When you attend ceremonia like this it just reminds you why you sacrifice your self the way you do as a danzante. It i… Continue

I've had enough. The Violence needs to stop. I realized by having conversation with women i know, mostly family members, have at one point in time been victims of domestic violence. Mujeres de Maiz, is a grassroots, multimedia women’s art collective and networking/support circle of emerging Xicana and Women of Color cultural activists and artists in Los Angeles proactively creating work for, by and, about women’s issues from local to global, personal to political, stressing the importance of gender, race, sexuality, and class. Through the programming of ongoing multimedia live arts shows, publications, as well as presentations to schools, conferences, and in both arts and community venues, the group outreaches to urban young women and youth regarding personal and cultural empowerment and history hoping to share and inspire others to collaborate and create their own art.
Mujeres,

Saludos!!!
This space is intended for all of las Mujeres de Maiz to have a space to share with the world what they do. For years I've been asked for referrals for women artists, poets, and performers. I ask that your page be a place where you let people know the following:

-your name
-short biography of some type
-What mediums of art you work in (dance, art, poetry, or all of the above, etc.)
-Contact information to get in touch with you,
-Samples of the work (photos, videos, mp3s, etc.),
-Types of presentations or workshops you can do (for conferences, schools, etc.)

This way we can all refer people to check out this site to find the right match for the work, project or vision they do.

Tlazo y paz mujeres...y adelante siempre!

-Felicia
